Hesperia Lake: Last Trout Stock of the Season

In this video, we visit Hesperia Lake for their last trout stock of the season. Their last trout stock of the season was on Thursday April 4, 2024. This stock consisted of 1000 pounds of Mt. Lassen Rainbow and Lightning Trout. In hopes of smaller crowds, we fished it on Sunday rather than Saturday. However, after fishing a few days after the stock, the fish began to act finicky. All the fish ca...

In this video, I fish Yorba Regional Park on the weekend to see if there are still trout be caught for the weekend anglers. First, there are more fish in the lake or pond and they have not yet seen all the different baits the anglers will throw. In addition, there can be less fishing pressure during the w...
Silverwood Lake: Mini Jigging For Trout

In this video, I take a trip to Silverwood Lake on the weekend to fish for some Mt. Lassen Trout. Earlier in the week, the lake was stocked with 5000 pounds of 1-3 pound trout for the first time this season. Being several days after the stock, I tried to fish away from the stocking area (Cleghorn Beach) in hopes the trout have moved out. Fortunately, after some searching, I was able to find a g...

In this video, we fished Puddingstone Lake in November after their first trout plant of the season. In the morning, the trout were biting close to shore. However, as the day progressed and got warmer, the trout began to head deeper. Therefore, I switched to a bobber and jig to get that extra casting distance to reach the fish. This worked very well until the evening were trout once again came c...

This lake was stocked a week before, so I wanted to give it a shot in hopes of finding some holdover trout. I never fished this lake before, so it was a fun experience learning a new lake. On this episode, we target late season trout on the last stock of the season for the city parks. At the end of April, the water temps rose to about 70 degrees Fahrenheit. As a result, the cold water trout began to move into deeper water in search of colder water. Therefore, the technique used in this video will be a bobber and jig. The rattle bobber will help cast further and reach those trout ...

Would you eat the fish you catch from there?
Stocked trout caught right after the stock are pretty safe to eat.
@@SaTanBaits what about now? I’m going tomorrow with my son and ideally I’ll like to snack on what we catch. What are your thoughts?

It’s called crystal lake u bozo
Damn bro that lightning is beautiful. I was there a week later but only caught a turtle. No fish at all but I didn't know it was the last stock of the season.
Good job man! 🤙🏽
I’ve fished crystal lake in the late 70s. The shore line was shoulder to shoulder with fishermen. 5 lb trouts were common. If you showed up early enough you could read a boat. I think shire fishing was better. The camp grounds were super nice too. The lake had large mouth bass and catfish.
What kind of line are you using?
4 LB Berkley Low-Vis Green Nanofil tied to a 4 LB Daiwa J-Fluoro Leader
Funny how all the guys seemed to get closer after each fish you caught
At the end of 8th grade I ran away from home and stay at Crystal Lake for two + months camping and hiding out from the Rangers (for not paying camp fees). LIVE at the amphitheater starring "SMOKEYYYYYYYY the Bear" July 4th weekend 1970!!!! It was amazing time to an 8th grader. I had two friends who were older and 1 of which drove, so they would hang out on weekends bringing up food. When we all were together we stayed in an Oasis tent by Coleman in the campground. The rest of the time I would just sleep under the stars hiding. I'll never forget that model tent, as it was made with a "NEW" material and was 8 x 10 and boy it was the best (at the time). Fishing was okay most of the time, hot during the afternoons unless it rained. I saw a couple of black bears and a cougar... the cougar scared the crap out of the three of us. As I recall, higher up the mountain was a Boy Scout camp called Deer Flats... at least that how I remember it and it was there where I had establish my base camp and we saw the cougar!!! YIKES!!! Because it was an "Organized Camp," unless a group was there, the place was empty and AWESOME. The road going up was gated closed unless the place was being used. The Rangers only went up to help the organized groups. Wow... Life was simpler, your mind wasn't bombarded with nonsense and BS.... your imagination was your biggest toy box, and each day seemed Tom Sawyer lazy. Oh to be a kid again BACK THEN!!!
Do you have link, where i can purchase that rod?
What rod is that?
This is a 9’ 4 weight 4 piece fly rod. The blank was purchased and wrapped into a spinning rod.
@@SaTanBaits If you know how i can purchase one please let me know?
How can you cast that far with a 1/64? confused...
The 1/64 oz. Mini jig was thrown with a rattle bobber. The rattle bobber has small BB’s to give the bobber more weight for further casts. Also the 4 Lb nanofil will help with casting distance.
nice place
Nice video! Love those Mt. Lassens, you slayed them. Guess you need that 9 footer with that soft end to cast that 1/64. Still getting used to casting 1/32 on my 8 footer.
Thank you. The 9’ rod is nice for throwing mini jigs and bobbers and jig rigs with long leaders. An 8’ UL rod should be good for throwing jigs as well.
Nothing like handling your business in public showing everyone how it’s done great video. I always tell my kids stories when i would be shoulder to shoulder with people in a river and hooking fish back to back while everyone else was just the skunked audience. My best was 11 casts with 11 fish streak. Again great video thanks.
where do the fish come from? Is it a dead lake, meaning no live up stream source?
Trout are stocked from Department of Fish and Wildlife (typically Spring-Fall). There is bass and green sunfish in the lake as well. Lake is mainly dependent on rain and snow for its water level. It may get some water from a spring as well. No inlets or outlets.
can you catch and keep fish there?
Yes, limit is 5 trout (no size restrictions) and 5 catfish (no size restrictions).
Outstanding 👏🏼 🎣
Glad you enjoyed it!
Not puddingstone lake!!!!!
I thought you weren't supposed to make contact with that water. You heard that back in the day it flooded the bathrooms when the water level got too high and it's been that way ever since.
Per US Forest Service Website, you are not allowed to swim in the lake. No restrictions on launching boats, float tubes, or kayaks at this time.
dang it gets this busy on a normal saturday?
Unfortunately, yes. Stocking days can be way worse. This season had about 50 people waiting for the truck and last stock at Ralph Clark had 100 people fishing right after the stock I hear.

Does anyone know how often they stock this lake?
About once a month. This is the fish and game's trout stocking schedule for Puddingstone Lake: nrm.dfg.ca.gov/FishPlants/Default.aspx?water=Puddingstone+Lake&time=All
Yes. As often as you look at the DFG Plants.
Any crappie or bass in there?
I’ve seen largemouth bass and green sunfish in there before.
how did u get to ur spot? I’m here right now and am not able to were u camping?
There is a trail outside the camping area on the south shore you can take to get there that goes along the lake.
@@SaTanBaitsthanks man! i found it cuz of this comment gonna try and hit it up this weekend i got one last weekend!
Great vid bro
Thank you @SouthernFisherman!!! Trying to get back into posting videos in between fishing trips!
Is it only Small trout in that park or some big ones that you’ve caught here previously?
The CDFW will typically stock 10-12” trout (catchable). However, you may also occasionally see 6-8” trout and some in 13-15” range. This year they have been stocking more trout in 1-2 pound range, but they are less frequent than the average size.
Nice footage… surprised no one’s fishing ….
Thank you, this video was taken back in April. Not as many people were chasing trout with other options available at the time. Also, DFW tend to stock smaller trout compare to Private Stocks at SARL, SB County Parks, etc.
What color patterrnwere you using? I would like to give that one a shot at my lake!
In clear water, I tend to prefer natural colors. This video I used Green Pumpkin, Black/Purple, Black/Mint, and even gold.
Silverwood is a great place. I prefer Miller Canyon because it’s more scenic. Every once in a while they will release stock back there.
I agree, I wish they would split the stock and put some in at the marina instead of dumping all 5000 pounds in cleghorn, but I’m sure a lot of them made it there eventually.
They have stocked at the marina before, but it caused too much chaos. People starting fishing off the boat ramp, and the dock, and the game warden yelling at everyone. It was quite funny. @@SaTanBaits
@@ScoutingWater I remember maybe 5 years back seeing 10 guys jigging the launch ramp in the marina with 20-40 trout swimming back and forth. I told my friend to go to miller and we fished there with a few other guys until everyone on the launch ramp got kicked out by the ranger and came to miller as well. 😅
What a great video brother I like fishing at silverwood and I'm here to stay thanks for sharing🤙🏾👍🏾🎣🎣tight lines👍🏾🤙🏾
Nice video bud. Beautiful trout. I just subscribed to your channel. Keep up the good work man. Tight lines and good luck this season.
Nice thank you
Remember it 60 years ago before they made a mess of it. Drive your car down to the waters edge and start fishing. Much better when it wasn't so artificial.😖
So with a rattle bobber, you shake your rod side to side for 1-2 seconds while slowly reeling? The noise from the bobber attracts the trout? even though the action on the jig is subtle (not bouncing)?
There’s two ways I jig the bobber. First is to twitch the bobber a few times while reeling in slack, pause and repeat. Fish will usually hit the jig when it’s sitting. Second is to constantly twitch the bobber and reel all the way back. Speed of retrieve and length of leader will determine depth the jig is at. Both methods work, but just depends on what the fish want. Not sure if rattles attract the fish, but they are helpful in adding weight for further casts.
Hi I've been there several times.. how do I get to that part of lake?
This spot is by the campground. You can hike there from the south or north shore.
Cool video...Ive been there once along time ago...the lake was really small though....After all that rain we had in the past few yrs the lake looks great..I was thinking that place looks like a good crappie lake ...then you ended up catching one....good to know they are in there too.
Who makes the rod, want one.
The rod used in this video is a custom 9’ 4 weight fly rod I bought from a small company.
I grew up fishing pudd it is a great Bass Lake.
Thank you Ryan. That’s good to know, we definitely want to try panfishing it this year as well.
You think they still have trouts there? Which spot is that at?
Yes, there should be plenty of holdovers spread out around the entire lake. Any small cove may be holding some trout.
@@ejo4454 You have to pay to get in, there is no freeloading. The whole point of stocking trouts is for everyone to fish them. Learn to be less greedy.
@@walden6272 Generally, what you are implying is because you dont know how to fish - let alone catch a limit - it requires sharing. Flip the coin over!!
@@ejo4454 That has not been my experience in real life. Fishing is a gentlemen sport and favorite past time of many kind people. Fishermen I have encounter in person often share their knowledge with each other to help one another catch more fish. Fishing is a passion and sharing that passion with even strangers is part of it. I do the same for others too if they fish at areas I am familiar with. Luckily I have not meet much people like you.
@walden6272 Only read first sentence. Get to the point.
Awesome video man 🤙
Thank you @Crappie_Day! 🙏
Awesome video 😃🤙 mad skills. I need to do more bobber fishing when the bite gets tough.
Thank you very much for the kind words. I prefer using just the 1/32 oz. Mini Jig when I can, but bobber fishing can be extremely effective especially for panfish. It’s also fun to watch the bobber go down. 😅
Great video name nice 🤙🏽 Do you need a fishing license for that park?
Thank you. Yes, license required if you are 16 years old or older.
DO you need an adventure pass to fish there?
Yes, you can get a daily pass for $5 or 12 month pass for $35 which will allow you to buy a second vehicle 12 month pass for an additional $5.

@@user-ld7kp5ls5dthey are currently available at Young’s Tackle (Bellflower, CA), Performance Tackle (Los Alamitos, CA), and Longfin Tackle (Orange, CA).
Look out for Jason Voorhees!😮
What’s the action on that rod? It bends way too much so I’m assuming it must be slow action ? You should try Okuma Guide Select Pro UL 7’6” rods because they have moderate/moderate fast action so the bend isn’t so significant and it whips quick enough so your mini jigs cast farther and not straight down. But that nanofil line is top tier 👌 love it 👏
This rod is a 9’ 4 weight fly rod converted into a spinning rod. Action is moderate fast.
@@SaTanBaits oh that’s why ! Seems like a lot of people are doing that now but I wouldn’t mess with a fly rod unless it’s a cheap one. But it seems more flimsy than a moderate fast 🤔 idk.
@@KimchiJerry FYI it's a slow action rod. Like a old Kencor PAC 73 Japanese S glass . I have been fishing mini jigs since the 80's. IMO a 5' Kencor is 1-6 Lb is best for float tube fishing. You can achieve the same jig action by extending your index finger while reeling; letting the line bump your finger as the bail turns if your rod tip is not as parabolic. Nothing will cast as far as a slow fly rod blank or kencor style rod. But if you are tubing distance should not matter.
